Leading by Example

I strive to always view people as individuals who move through this life with a diversity of experiences that color the lens through which they view the world. In turn, I am very intentional about the language I use. I don't call people derogatory names and I don't paint with broad strokes and label entire groups of people. If you ever catch me doing this, I invite you to call me on it so I can correct it.

The advent of social media has been both a blessing and a curse. We have both information and disinformation at our fingertips, and you don't have to click far to find disparaging and disrespectful remarks hurled around. I know many of us are tired of the way our local Parkside Facebook pages are inundated with it. I can't promise you that if you elect me to Council, I can end that. I can't. What I do have control over is how I engage as a councilperson.

My goal as a councilperson is to create opportunities for residents to come together, meet each other and have a good time. It is much easier to see people beyond the caricatures created on the internet when you get to interact with them offline, in real life. I want the residents of Parkside to have that level of comfort with me too, knowing that if they have a concern, they can come to me and feel heard and supported.

As your councilperson, I am committed to:

- Maintaining office hours in the borough building where you can drop by and chat with me about any concerns you have.

- Streamlining communication of borough news and information. I'm a resident too, and I know it can be chaotic sometimes wondering whether there'll be an email blast or a social media post, and if so, which Facebook group will it be in.

- Advocating for your input on important borough decisions, especially if they involve a hefty price tag. Whenever possible, borough council should table voting on an issue to provide time to listen to what YOU want.

- Voting in the interest of Parkside residents, not in the interest of my political party. I answer to YOU after all. While I am a registered Democrat, I don’t always agree with all Democrats, and I imagine you could say the same about your own political party.

I have a whole list of community event ideas I can't wait to share with you all. Please come out on November 2nd and vote. It would be my honor to serve as your next councilperson. Let's get to work!
