The Parkside Dems are committed to investing in the future of our community and in our children. Equity in education and opportunity is a driving force behind the Democratic vision and for this reason, we have decided not to require educational transcripts as part of the scholarship application process. Children learn and absorb information in many different ways and we don’t believe that a child’s potential can be accurately predicted by a gradebook. We are also aware of many factors that can affect a child’s school performance, including hunger or food insecurity, exposure to trauma and abuse, and parental substance abuse.

The scholarship will not be awarded until the chosen recipient provides a letter of acceptance to an approved education program. Beyond traditional accredited institutions of higher education, the Parkside Dems Scholarship Committee will also accept enrollment into a trade or technical program, including skilled trade apprenticeship programs as the upfront cost of tools and materials can create a financial barrier. Our commitment to diversity includes a recognition that career and success reaches beyond educational degree programs.
